Mr. William Halliday Short, age 80 of Waverly, Tennessee, passed away Friday, September 18, 2020 at Centennial Hospital in Nashville. Hal was born July 6, 1940 in Jackson, Tennessee to Halliday Trice Short and Nancy Louise Jones Short.
He married Dean Herndon Short and they had three children, Nancy, Deborah, and Hal Jr. He worked for Conalco for several years. After they closed he opened a successful business, Hal's Jewelry. Hal journeyed all over the world hunting wild game, angling giant fish and any wild beast that roamed the earth. He was the world's best huntsman and everyone knew it. His most recent favorite past time was sitting on the back porch with Dean, Bella and other family members watching the geese fly into their field and take flight for the night to go home. Every year Hal grew a beautiful and bountiful garden that fed the entire family and the whole neighborhood.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly , from 11am until funeral service time at 2pm. Bro. Joe Rhodes will officiate the service. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Pallbearers who will serve are Frazier Barker, Carson Short, Brian Short, Clark Short, Brock Herndon and Brody Herndon. Honorary pallbearers will be Dalton Hughey, Kaden and Oakley James and Tripp and Traxx Jackson.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dean Short.
Two daughters, Nancy Turner (Jimmy) of New Johnsonville and Deborah Hughey (Greg) of Waverly.
One son, Hal Short Jr. (Angie) of Waverly.
One Brother, Mike Short (Dianne) of Jackson, TN
Brother-in-law, Eddie Herndon of McEwen, TN

He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Halliday and Nancy Short and a grandson, Ethan Turner.
