Mr. Wallace Buford West was born in Rayon City, TN and grew up in Old Hickory, TN, where he graduated from DuPont High School. In March 1958, he was the 37th employee hired at the E. I. DuPont Plant in New Johnsonville, TN. Much of his career was in Maintenance and he retired in 1996. Together with his wife, Mary Etta, they made their lifelong home and raised their family in Hustburg, TN. Mr. West passed away peacefully at Magnolia Place in Waverly, TN, March 19, 2021. Wallace West was a family man. The greatest joy of his life was time spent together. His smile would light up a room and when he hugged you, you knew he meant it. He was multitalented with his hands in woodworking, pottery, and gardening. It was a blessing to him to make and share his many beautiful works of art. He never took one moment on this earth for granted. In his many travels across the great country he never ceased to be wonderstruck by the beauty of God's creation. In one of his travel journals, he wrote "Man hasn't made the first thing on this earth, only used and changed what God has put here for us." He lived daily by his motto, "Work hard. Do the right thing, and always do your best." And it was always a great day. The family would like to acknowledge and express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Magnolia Place who lovingly and compassionately cared for a man we deeply loved, and helped walk him home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests for everyone to do a random act of kindness in memory of Wallace. A private burial of cremains will be held at Ebenezer Cemetery in New Johnsonville, TN at a later date. He is preceded in death by his wife and love of his life Mary Etta (Dick) West, parents Buford Edgar West and Mattie Lee (Thomason) West, sisters Barbara (West) Johnston, Carleen (West) Carter, Midge (West) Blaylock, and brother George Alvia West. He is survived by his children Kathy (Dennie) Rice, Kim (Gary) Lyttle, Beth Hernandez, Wallace (Tamara) West, II, Ben (Michele) West, brother Gary (Jan) West, and sister-in-law Hilda (Dick) Cobb. Along with a large family of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. LUFF-BOWEN FUNERAL HOME RICHLAWN CREMATORY 2400 Hwy. 13 North Waverly, TN 37185 Telephone 931-296-2437
