Velma Joan Buchanan

Velma J. Buchanan, beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Velma was married for 63 wonderful years, dedicating her life to her husband, children, and home. As a homemaker, she created a warm and loving environment filled with delicious meals and cherished memories. Her love for cooking was matched only by her devotion to her family.

Velma was a faithful member of Compassion Church in Waverly, TN, where she drew strength and joy from her faith in God. She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones and was known for her welcoming spirit and generous heart. Whether she was cooking for a family gathering, enjoying a shopping trip, or sharing laughter with friends, Velma’s presence brought light and comfort to everyone she met.

In addition to her role as a homemaker, Velma was a dedicated supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project. Her compassion and commitment to helping others were evident in her decades-long dedication to these causes. She took great pride in contributing to the wellbeing of children and families in need, as well as honoring and supporting those who have served our country.

Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Velma is preceded death by her parents, Agnes Sylvester Mathis Dabbs and Hobert Earle Dabbs; siblings, Helen M. Robbins, Hazel R. Harris, Earl H. Dabbs, Sarah O. Baker, Frank L. Dabbs, Imogene Davis, Samuel F. Dabbs and Curtis Dabbs.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 63 years, Billy W. Buchanan; sister, Bonnie R. Chance; children, Tim Buchanan (Jaquita), Jeff Buchanan (Gina) and Tammy Sensing (Pat); grandchildren, Christopher Buchanan, Skyler Sensing (Lindsey), Madison Sensing, Lacey Gregory (Tanner), Katie McLeod (Jacob), Isaac Buchanan; great grandchildren, Maddox Sensing, Arianna Waggoner, Dax Gregory, Avery McLeod, Piper Sensing, Luna Gregory, Kohen Gregory, Connor McLeod, and twins, Wyatt and Langston Hanner.

A visitation for Velma will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly at 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Garrette Milliken. Interment to follow at Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens at 12:30 P.M.
