Sharon Laverne Gwin

Ms. Sharon Laverne Gwin, age 69, of Waverly, TN, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021, at Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly, TN. Sharon was born November 30, 1951, in Waverly, TN to Walter David "Stack" Gwin and Doris Dean Smith Gwin. She was a graduate of Waverly Central High School Class of 1970. Sharon was a retired Playboy Bunny and was employed by Hugh Hefner's Playboy Clubs. She was a Bunny in the Chicago Playboy Club between 1970 and 1976. She was discovered during a Bunny Hunt in Houston, TX. John Dante, Playboy Clubs' top executive, personally selected her from among the hundreds of applicants. Throughout her cottontail career, Sharon lived at Hugh Hefner's Chicago Mansion. She became famous to the Chicago Keyholders as the charming Door Bunny with the cute Southern accent. Sharon also worked in most of the Chicago Club Rooms, became a Jockey Bunny, appeared at many Bunny promotions, and assisted John Dante during nationwide Bunny Hunts to find new cottontails. Hugh Hefner especially chose Sharon to be a Jet Bunny, a high-flying hare in the air on board his mile-high hutch, the Big Bunny DC-9 Jet. Very few Bunnies were ever chosen to join the elite ranks of the Jet Bunnies. The Jet Bunnies represented the creme de la creme of the cottontail creed. Sharon flew on many of the Jet Bunny flights, including tours with Elvis and Sonny and Cher. After leaving Playboy, Sharon married, divorced, re-married and raised two beautiful children. She became a champion Doberman Pincher breeder. Sharon wrote her autobiography, Bunny Dreams, which was published in 2003, the year of Playboy's 50th Anniversary. Visitation and a time of remembrance for family and friends to share memories for Sharon Gwin will be Sunday, August 22, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly, TN.
