Sandra Jean Hooper

Sandra Jean Hooper, age 76 of McEwen, TN passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. Sandra was born in DeKalb, MS on September 3, 1946 to the late Hollis Welch and Margaret Golden. Sandra was a member of Pine Hill Church and was active in the choir. She enjoyed playing the mandolin and listening to Blue Grass. She loved her weekly women’s bible study group and her outings with her friends. She called them her “Golden Girls”. Sandra loved her church family and her community. Sandra loved her family tremendously, especially her grandchildren. She spoiled everyone and everything she came into contact with. Her family will remember her as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She leaves behind her sister, Patricia Rush of DeKalb, MS; 2 daughters, Angela Taylor (Roger) of Antioch, TN and Tanya Mathis (Gary) of Erin, TN; 3 grandchildren, Cody Mathis (Rachel), Micaela Mathis and Grayson Boley; 4 great grandchildren, Skyler Mathis, Braxton Kilgore, McKenna Mathis and Harper Mathis. Sandra is also survived by her niece, Hope Stephens and nephew, Tim Stephens.

Along with her parents, Sandra is preceded in death by her husband, James Wesley Hooper; and great granddaughter, McKinley Grace Kilgore.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly, TN at 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at 2:00 P.M. Officiating will be Associate Pastor Della Rye. Interment to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in McEwen, TN.

The family of Ms. Sandra would like to express their gratitude to Aseracare Hospice Staff.  They would also like to thank her personal caregivers, Sheila Pillow, Betty Smith, and Wanda Parker.
