Robert Owen Brown

Robert Owen Brown, age 91 of Waverly, TN passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN. Owen was born in Humphreys County, TN on February 12, 1933, to the late Ollie Jane Durham Brown and William Walter Brown. Owen was a Korean War Veteran, proudly serving his country in the U.S Army. He was a devoted man of God and attended Waverly Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a business owner since 1959 of Brown Cabinet Shop, building custom cabinets in many homes in Humphreys County. Owen was the first person in Tennessee who raised Registered Beef Master Cattle. He also contributed to starting the Dixie League in Waverly 56 years ago. Owen was also an avid Atlanta Braves and Vanderbilt baseball fan. He will be remembered as a loving father, papa, great-grand papa, brother, uncle and friend.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Debbie Wheeler (Stephen) of Waverly, TN, Mark Brown (Indi) of Hurricane Mills, TN and Joy Troncoso (Victor) of Smithville, TN; grandchildren, Joshua Wheeler, Maghan Brown, Emily Merritt, Britney Hooper and Jamison Troncoso; great-grandchildren, Tre Malone and Joleigh Malone; brothers, Raymond Brown and Danny Brown; sister, Dale Hicks; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Along with his parents, Owen is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Brown; son, Gregory Allen Brown; sister, Catherine Carter; brothers, Jesse Brown, Clifton Brown and William Walter Brown, Jr.; best friend and brother-in-law, David Wise, Sr. and sister-in-law, Barbara Wise.

A visitation for Mr. Owen will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 2:00 P.M. at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly. Interment will follow at Durham Family Cemetery in Waverly, TN.
