Mary Elizabeth Bradley Tarpy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth Tarpy, age 92, our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and friend to everyone God allowed to come into her life. Mrs. Tarpy died on June 8, 2022 at her home in McEwen.

She passed away after a short illness from a stroke. She was cared for by her family and in home hospice care, Caris Healthcare, and a lot of love from friends.

She was friends to many and loved family and friends being around and she loved to travel at anytime. She was a gaming wheel ready to pull the handle and see where it would take her, her brother and her sister at anytime.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, June 10, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m., at the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in McEwen.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McEwen. Father Zach Kirangu will be officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in McEwen.

Mary Elizabeth (Tootsie) Tarpy was born June 30, 1929, in McEwen, TN. The daughter of Walter William Bradley and Lucille Triplett (Bradley) Hiett of McEwen. Mrs. Tarpy was the wife of the late Paul E. (Pete) Tarpy. She was a lifelong member of St Patrick Catholic Church in McEwen. Mary loved her church, her family, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. She loved traveling with Pete or any friends and seeing new places. As it was said, don’t ask Mary if we wanted to go somewhere or she would beat you to the car. She helped take care of and helped raise many grandchildren over her life. She was known as Mawmaw by all and she loved everyone in her own special way.

Mary is survived by her children Barbara Hooper, husband Tommy, Dale Tarpy, and Anthony Tarpy, wife Cindy, all of McEwen, TN. Mary had 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Mary has a sister, JoAnn Wilson, of McEwen, TN and a brother, Walter William (Butch) and Cathy Bradley of Bon Aqua, TN. She truly loved her brother and sister and they were one of the joys in her later years. One of God’s blessings to her and her family. Mary has too many nieces and nephews to count but they all knew her as their own Mammaw.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her late husband, Pete Tarpy, her son Larry Tarpy, and her brother, L. D. (Buddy) Bradley.

The family wants to thank anyone and everyone that helped in any way to make Mawmaw’s last days here with us such a blessing, she has gone to be with our Lord and family.
