Mr. Larry Eugene Knox, age 76, of McEwen, TN, passed away January 23, 2021 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN. A man of uncompromising character and great kindness, he will be remembered as a loyal American, successful entrepreneur, and devoted husband, friend, brother, father and grandfather. The oldest of six, Larry was born and raised in Marietta, GA by Fred Marion and Nanny Sue Knox. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1967 and served in Vietnam as part of the Naval Construction “Sea Bees” Battalion through 1968, continuing in the Naval Reserve through 1972. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Fleet Marine Force, the Combat Operations Insignia and the Navy Expert Rifleman Medal. He remained a proud and outspoken patriot for his entire life. Larry spent two years studying at Georgia Institute of Technology and continued his education after his military service at Southern Tech, where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. He opened the doors of Knox Electrical Contractors with his father in 1974 and worked tirelessly, in partnership with his wife and siblings, to create jobs and make a difference in the community. He sold the business in 2009 to retire in McEwen with the light of his life, wife Wanda Goodgine Knox. Larry was a voracious reader, a bona fide nature lover, an afficionado of music and fine wines, as well as an accomplished fisherman and hunter. Most of all, Larry was family man. For all his life’s successes and civic and military recognition, he will be best remembered for the love, care and honor he imparted to his family every day of his life. Interment will be at Richlawn Cemetery.
