George Washington Emery, Jr.

Mr. George Washington Emery Jr., age 92 of Waverly, TN, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Humphreys County Nursing Home. He was born November 26, 1927 in Madisonville, Kentucky to the late George Washington Emery, Sr. and Elsie Riles Emery. He was a retiree of Tennessee Valley Authority and a member of the First Baptist Church in Waverly. He married Lucille Pettit of Gaffney, South Carolina, and they had three children, Randy, Charlotte and Eddie Emery. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner.

A Graveside service will be conducted at the Wyly Cemetery in Waverly, TN on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 2:00pm. Dr. Scott Brown will officiate the service.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lucille Emery;
Two sons: Randy Emery (Ali) of Fulshear, TX and Eddie Emery (Darlene) of Waverly, TN;
One daughter: Charlotte Rushton (Phil) of Camden,TN
Two sisters: Betty Lou Marston of Lawrenceburg, TN and Helen Louise Bartos of Parma, Ohio;
Brother in law: Roy Pettit of Greenville, South Carolina;
Sister in law: Sarah Williams of Gaffney, South Carolina.

He also leaves four grandchildren: Emery Rushton, Emily Whitsell, Amber Dawn Elliott, and Shawn Emery; six great grandchildren: Madison Rushton, Megan Rushton, Scarlett Whitsell, Harry Whitsell, Dennis Whitsell and Kylie Elliott.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George W. Emery, Sr. and Elsie Riles Emery, one brother, William H. Birchfield and one sister, Dottie Jo Emery Dixon.
