Frances Salome McClanahan Thornton

Mrs. Frances Salome McClanahan Thornton, age 97, of Waverly, TN, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Humphreys County Nursing Home.  Frances was born July 19, 1922, in Honey Grove, TX, to John Luke McClanahan and Callie Laura Hollins McClanahan. She was active in the First Baptist Church of Waverly. Frances loved watching sports on TV - basketball, golf, football, anything.   In her younger days she actually played a lot of softball and basketball and was on a semi pro traveling ladies basketball team during World War II.  

She is survived by:

One Son- William Keith Thornton (Judy), FL

One Daughter- Jan Jones (Don), WV

4 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren

She is preceded in death by: Her husband-William “Bill” George Thornton and her parents John Luke and Callie Laura McClanahan.

Visitation for Mrs. Frances Thornton will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly beginning at 12:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM.  Interment will be at Richlawn Cemetery in Waverly.
