Dr. Arthur Winfrey Walker, age 94 of Waverly, Tennessee, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at Camden Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Walker was born January 24, 1928 in Fayette County, Tennessee to June Galloway Walker and Mattie Sweeny Winfrey Walker. He married Jo Bone Walker who passed away in 2019. They were wed on the Bride and Groom Radio Program in Hollywood, California. Together they had four children: Arthur, Mark, Charles, and Melanie. Dr. Walker served our Country in the United States Navy where he trained to be a pilot. He was a member of Waverly United Methodist Church where he served in the choir, on the building committee, administrative board, church council, Methodist Men, delegate to Annual Conference and worked with the youth for many years. Arthur Winfrey Walker was a wonderful Physician since 1953. Dr. Walker attended University of Miami, University of South Carolina, and University of Tennessee- Memphis, where he was an honor graduate. He was was named Physician of the year in 2003 and for many years was Chief of Staff at Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly, TN. He also served on the board of directors for Humphreys County Nursing Home. Dr. Walker was a member of the Tennessee Medical Association, Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians, and Benton/Humphreys County Medical Society. His survivors include: 3 Sons: Arthur Winfrey Walker, Jr. (Tina), Nashville, TN Mark Hamon Walker (Twila), Waverly, TN Dr. Charles Allen Walker, Jackson, TN 1 Daughter: Melanie Jo Walker Mathias, Tulsa, OK 9 Grandchildren: Ashley Winfrey Walker, Adam Tarpy Walker, Amber Marie Walker, Crystal Danielle Walker, Carrie Jo Colvard, Calli Jane Colvard Bennett, Christopher Bryan Colvard, Jason Michael Walker, and Jordan Brittany Walker, 17 Great Grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, June Galloway Walker and Mattie Sweeny Winfrey Walker, his wife, Jo Bone Walker, daughter-in- law, Lisa Walker and son-in-law, Stan Mathias. Visitation for Dr. Walker will be on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 11am until time of service at 2pm at Waverly United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Richlawn Cemetery. Rev. Frank Smith will officiate the service.
