Donald Gene Choate

Donald "Don" Gene Choate, age 77, of Waverly, TN, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at TriStar Horizon Medical in Dickson, TN. He was born in Fulton, KY on December 16, 1946 to the late Imogene and Charles Choate. Don served as a Transportation Supervisor at the Humphreys County Board of Education, where he played an instrumental role in ensuring the well-being of countless students. His career also included distinguished service in law enforcement, having worked at both the McEwen and Waverly Police Departments and the Humphreys County Sheriff Department. Don was also an entruprenuer, owning several businesses. Throughout his career, Don was known for his hardworking nature and good heart, always striving to serve others with kindness and integrity. Don took immense pride in his family, often expressing that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his everything. His love for them knew no bounds, and he cherished every moment spent with them. As we remember Donald "Don" Gene Choate, we celebrate a life well-lived, a steadfast friend, a dedicated worker, and a beloved family man. His legacy of love and commitment will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 51 years, Rita Choate of Waverly, TN; son, Joe Don Choate (J.J.) of Chattanooga, TN; daughter, Joy Turner (Jeff) of New Johnsonville, TN; brother, Bob Choate (Elaine) of Waverly, TN; grandchildren, Bailey Choate Baker, Mason Choate, Mylee Choate, Sophie Choate, Kristan Poyner, Evan McCaleb (Jessica) and Ashley Ross; great grandchildren, Carson Poyner, Ethan Baker, Paisley McCaleb, Kaylee Bridgewater, Rylee Jackson, Harlee Jackson, Marlee Rye, Emryn Cathey, Emerson Cathey and Elijah Cathey.

Along with his parents, Don is preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Choate Turner;  brother, Charles Edward Choate and sister, Sandra Kay Choate.

A  visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at  2:00 P.M. at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly, TN. with Reverend Carlton Tester officiating. Pallbearers will be Mason Choate, Evan McCaleb, Steve Tate, Bobby Dale Choate, Andrew Poyner and Danny Hams. Interment will be at Richlawn Cemetery in Waverly, TN.
