Charles Christopher (Chris) Cording, 41, of Waverly, TN, died on Monday morning, March 20, 2023, after a long illness. He was born on April 4, 1981, at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN, to Deborah and Robert Cording. Chris graduated from Nashville Academy in 2000, and moved to Raleigh, NC, to attend college. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from North Carolina State University in 2006 and remained a diehard Wolfpack sports fan throughout his life.
Chris worked his way through college as a sommelier and server at Sullivan’s Steakhouse in downtown Raleigh. After graduation, he worked as a Finance Manager and Finance Director for Deacon Jones auto dealerships in Central North Carolina and later worked for various companies in Research Triangle Park, NC.
Chris loved music. Chris felt music. He was an accomplished guitarist and creative talent. As a teen, he played guitar for various bands performing at venues along Nashville’s Lower Broadway scene. He collaborated with songwriters, including his cousin, on lead guitar riffs. He also liked to draw, yet another expression of his artistic talents.
For relaxation, he and his cousin liked to ride in his Mustang while listening to their favorite musical artists. Chris enjoyed recreational basketball, football, swimming, and even figure skating! He won a few medals in local skating competitions as a child.
Chris was a sensitive soul. He was witty and could be a jokester, yet curious enough to share in others’ interests and keen enough to sense others’ problems.
Chris is survived by his mother, Deborah Ann Hurt, and stepfather Glenn, of McEwen, TN; brother Robert (Bert) G. Cording, lll, wife Meagan, and Nephew William Cording, of Charles Town, WV; aunt Barbara Pecic and Uncle Bill, of Raleigh, NC; and cousin Lauren N. Snyder, of Franklinton, NC.
