Bowin Thomas "TOMMY" Turner

Bowin Thomas “TOMMY” Turner, age 80, of Waverly, TN, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at his home.  Tommy was born on July 31, 1942, in the Camp Creek Area of Union County, GA, to Guy B. Turner and Clyta Patterson Turner, the oldest of four children. He grew up in Fannin County, GA, and after graduating from East Fannin High School Tommy moved to Atlanta, GA where he met the love of his life, Jayne Holloway.  They married in 1961 and in 1962 had their only child, Morris Turner. After Several years of working for Atlanta Gas Light Company, Tommy changed his career to the insurance industry, and completed his Business Administration Degree from Georgia State University.  He continued in the insurance business, settling in Waverly, TN, in 1987, as Agency Manager of Humphreys County Farm Bureau, and staying until his retirement in 2008. Tommy was active in the Gideons and in helping the Nashville Rescue Mission as well as donating time, energy and resources to other organizations that are helpful to the needy.  He was a very caring person who also helped families and persons individually. Tommy’s first love was for Jesus, then his family, his church, and he loved his work.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of over 61 years Jayne Holloway Turner, Waverly, TN; Son, Morris Turner, Bryan TX; Brother, Charles (Rebecca) Turner, Dallas, GA; 2 Sisters, Delga Cox & Carolyn (Paul) Filer, both of Blairsville, GA; 3 Grandchildren,  Jordan Turner,  Bastrop, TX, Harrison (Raven) Turner,  Bryan, TX  & Hudson Turner,  Bryan, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Tommy Turner will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023, from 5PM-8PM and on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, 1PM until the time of service beginning at 2 PM, at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly. Bro. Skip Youngcourt and Bro. Wayne Purcell will be officiating the service.  There will be a graveside service and interment on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Morganton, GA, at 11:00 AM.  Rev. Larry Williams will officiate at the graveside services.
