Bennie Woods Porter

Bennie Woods Porter, age 76, of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away at Saint Thomas -Rutherford on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. She was born September 7, 1947, in Waverly, TN to the late Ruth and Millard Woods. Bennie proudly dedicated her life to service and sacrifice for over 35 years as a Registered Nurse and Director of Surgical Services at Rutherford Hospital and Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Bennie was a devoted, caring mother to her two daughters, Sherrie and Lisa; and she was involved with the many activities they participated volunteering much time to schools and the Murfreesboro community. Bennie will be remembered as a loving mother, Gran, sister, aunt and friend. 

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sherrie Marie Porter of Murfreesboro, TN and Lisa Lynn Hatcher (Heath) of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Gabriel Woods Hatcher and Silas Henry Hatcher; sisters, Nancy Fielder and Vicki Stribling (JV), both of Waverly, TN; niece, Jennifer Stribling (Scott Atkinson and Olive) of Waverly, TN and nephew, Jacob Stribling (Mandy, Josh and Jules) of Brentwood, TN.

Bennie is preceeded in death by her mother, Ruth Woods and her father, Millard Woods.

In lieu of Flowers or gifts the family requests donations in memory of Bennie Woods Porter to the American Heart Association or the Humphreys County Humane Society.

Arrangements are entrusted to Luff-Bowen Funeral Home. 

The family will have a graveside service on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at 4:00 P.M. at Williams Cemetery, 1074–1116 Jack Rudolph Ln, Hurricane Mills, TN 37078.

A Celebration of Life will follow at a later time to be determined.
