Mr. Michael Joseph "Mike" Burns, Jr., age 89, of Humboldt, TN, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014, in Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt. Mr. Burns was born June 2, 1925, in Waverly, TN, to Michael Joseph Burns, Sr. and Lucinda Story Burns. He was married to Oveda Davis Burns. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Church in Crossville, TN, Masonic Lodge #715 in Memphis, TN, 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite, Shriner in Memphis, Eastern Star Oakville #265, and American Legion Post #34 in Waverly, TN. Mr. Burns was a retired General Superintendent for Peabody Coal Company in St. Louis, MO. Visitation with the family will be Monday, September 8, 2014, from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in McEwen, TN. A Masonic service will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014, at the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in McEwen, with Bro. Jim Suddeath officiating. Interment will follow in the Doughten-Long-Pickard Cemetery in McEwen, TN. Active pallbearers will be Jason Burns, Patrick Burns, Kenny Burns, Denny Burns, Dwayne Davis, and Chris Daniel.
