James "Jim" Harrison Holland

James "Jim" Harrison Holland, son of James Harvel and Sybil Henry Holland, passed away in Miami Lakes, FL, unexpectedly on December 8, 2013. Jim was born in McEwen, TN on May 24, 1945. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents; James Hatcher and Agnes Petty Holland, maternal grandparents; Bert Harrison and Bessie Pickard Henry. Jim graduated with the Class of 1963 at McEwen High School. He was valedictorian of his class as well as an all-round athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. He remained friends with many of his classmates and always enjoyed reunion time at the Irish Picnic in McEwen. Jim attended the University of Mississippi in Oxford and the University of Illinois, where he received his BS degree in urban planning. He then earned his MA degree in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University. During his professional career, Jim served several cities in Illinois and Ohio before settling in south Florida in 1971. Jim was employed as the city planner for Deerfield and Pompano Beach for several years before eventually settling in the Miami area. Most recently, Jim served the city of Miami Springs as their planning director. Jim is survived by Dianne, his wife of 18 years, and his beloved pets; sisters; Wanda Prince of Lenoir, NC, and Joye Street, of Burns, TN, and brother Steve Holland of Nashville, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held December 12, 2013, in Miami Springs, FL. For his friends and family in Tennessee, a memorial service will be held in McEwen in mid July, 2014.
