Larry Lee Hughey

Mr. Larry Lee Hughey, age 75, of Waverly, TN, passed away peacefully at home on February 4, 2013 after an extended illness. He was born on November 27, 1937 in Waverly, Tennessee. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Lisa Ann Hughey of Nashville, Tennessee; his wife, Betty Stewart Hughey of Dickson, Tennessee; his aunt, Mary Ann Corlew of Waverly, Tennessee; his nephew, Dr. Brian Hughey (Marisa) of Lebanon, Tennessee; and his sister-in-law, Frances Hughey of Waverly, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clatie Hughey Scarborough; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Hughey, his brother, Douglas Hughey, his aunt, Ruth Hughey Brandon, and his uncle, Paul Hughey. Larry was the owner of Hughey Construction Company in Waverly, Tennessee. He graduated in 1956 from Waverly Central High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. He attended Austin Peay State University where he played collegiate baseball. Larry also enjoyed playing golf and was instrumental in the creation and operation of the Waverly Country Club. In his later years, Larry enjoyed many a game of "pick-up" basketball with the guys. Larry was a source of inspiration to all who knew him and his smile would light up the room. He had a way of making everyone feel special. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013 and Friday, February 8, 2013 from 9 a.m. until funeral service time at 10 a.m., at the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly, TN. Bro. Marcus Vine will be officiating the service. Interment will follow in the Richlawn Cemetery in Waverly. Larry will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humphreys County Humane Society. Larry had a great love for all animals, as known by his family and friends.
