Mr. Miller Griffin Bass, age 87 of Waverly, the retired General Manager after 26 years, 1963-1989, from the Humphreys County Utility District, passed away Sunday March 27, 2011 at the Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly, TN. He was born on August 11, 1923 in Lawrenceburg, TN, to John Cullum and Lilly Norton Bass. Mr. Bass was a graduate of Columbia Central High School Class of 1941, attended Nashville Blueprint College, served in the U.S. Navy, WWII, on the U.S.S. Baretta from July 31, 1943 to February 7, 1946, many careers including lumber, electrical, TVA, owner of multiple restaurants, and natural gas. He was president of American Public Gas Association, president of Tennessee Gas Association, president Humphreys Shriners, Al Menah Shriner, 50 year 32nd degree Free and Accepted Mason, Waverly Lodge #304, American Legion, member of the Waverly Elks Lodge and past member of the Lions Club. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, March 29, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, will be from 9:30 a.m. until funeral service time at 11 a.m. at the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly, TN. Rev. David Spencer and Rev. Horace Bass will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Richlawn Cemetery in Waverly, TN. Active pallbearers will be David Little, Jimmy Bass, Wayne Bass, David Wiser, Bud Bradley, Steve Hooper, Phillip Featherstone, and Alton Hethcoat. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present employees of Humphreys County Utility District. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association, the Waverly United Methodist Church Building Fund, or to the charity of your choice.
