Mr. Victor David Asbury, Sr., age 86, of Waverly, TN, died Monday, November 16, 2009 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents; Victor Newlin and Ellen McCormick Asbury, siblings; Joe McCormick Asbury, Norma Jane Parkhurst, and Sidney Clare Asbury. Survivors include his wife of 61 years; Carolyn Buck Asbury, Waverly, TN, daughter; Molly Asbury Sisco (Devin), Dickson, TN, son; Victor David Asbury, Jr. (Annette), Lansing, MI, former daughter-in-law; Rachel Asbury, Lansing, MI, 2 granddaughters; Daphne and Sydney, 2 great granddaughters; Madison and Judah, 2 sisters; Virginia Holsinger (Howard), Columbus, OH, Anna Lou Fultz (Richard), Cayuga, IN, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mr. David Asbury was born on April 10, 1923 in Newport, Indiana. He moved to Waverly, TN in April, 1957 to help start the E. I. DuPont plant. He was a retired Personnel Supervisor for E. I. DuPont in New Johnsonville, TN, a member of Waverly United Methodist Church, Waverly Lions Club, Newport, Indiana Masonic Lodge, 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner, Hickman-Patterson American Legion Post #34, a U. S. Army WWII veteran, JERA and ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out Club). He was a former member of the Waverly City Council for several years during which he was responsible for the operations of the Waverly City Pool. He was also very instrumental in establishing Asbury City Park in Waverly, which was named in his honor. Mr. Asbury was a former Chairman of the James Developmental Center, Inc. Board, former member of Nautilus Hospital Board, former member of Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency Board, and a former Boy Scout Leader. Visitation with the family will be from 4-9 PM Wednesday, November 18, 2009 with a Masonic Service at 7 PM at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly, TN. Visitation on Thursday, November 19, 2009, will be from 10 AM until funeral service time at 11 AM at the Waverly United Methodist Church, 115 West Main St., Waverly, TN. Rev. David Spencer will be officiating with interment to follow in the Richlawn Cemetery in Waverly, TN. Military honors will be at the cemetery.
